Vehicle compatibility before buying a rack
A rack must match the vehicle, attachment point and intended load. Use this checklist before ordering a Yakima or Küat system.
Start with the exact vehicle year, make, model and body style. For a roof box such as Yakima SkyBox NX XXL, confirm the vehicle has a supported roof system, then check crossbar type, spacing, hatch clearance and the box instructions. For a hitch rack such as Küat NV 2.0, confirm receiver size, tongue-weight allowance and rack configuration. A product-family name does not establish fit.
Write down every published limit: vehicle roof or hitch rating, crossbar or receiver limit, rack limit and accessory limit. The usable ceiling is the lowest applicable number, and that number must include the carrier itself. Account for bicycles, cargo and add-ons. Do not transfer a fit result between trim levels, roof options or model years without checking.
Review installation instructions before purchase to identify required tools, torque values, locks and clearance checks. After installation, inspect fasteners and open the hatch slowly. Keep loads out of lights and the license plate, and follow the maker’s recheck interval. If the vehicle lacks an approved attachment point or the instructions conflict, ask the vehicle or rack manufacturer.
